In the beginning was the word… in this case that word is not the word of God, but the written word of a man. For years I’ve struggled with the concept of creating a blog. Not because I disliked the thought of periodically reflecting on my life and the world around me, but instead because I felt like bloggers in some sense disconnected themselves from the world. My passion for journalism and video story telling stems from my desire to imbue my audience with knowledge and creativity that would ignite a fire of inspiration to improve the world, not just entertain their eyes or enrage their thoughts. If you can forgive the use of a Smallville quote, I often feel like “this world of armchair bloggers has created a generation of critics instead of leaders”. Many who traveling along the path of blogging lose sight of the destination and become trapped in a never-ending cycle of opinions without actions.
As I begin my journey as a blogger I pray that I remain fixed on my goal of creating enriching thought that leads to the advancement of our human society not the grumbling and fear mongering that has tarnished my impression of blogging.
The events that have occurred over this past month have shown us the power of the Internet and of the sharing /spreading of ideas. Thanks to new new media free thinkers in Tunisia and Egypt were able to realize that they were not alone and that their numbers were far greater than many had imagined. However, even with the pivotal role sites like Facebook and Twitter played in these revolutions in would have been a moot point had the individuals not banned together and taken action.
I’d like to finish my first post my asking your help in maintaining a thought provoking and inspirational blog. If at any point you feel that I have deviated from my goal, please let me know. It is up to all of us to assist each other along the way. These are just words, but together they can become more.
I look forward to reading your blog! What does Ardent Alerion mean?
